House on Tuesday, but in a potential twist, allies and reform advocates are anticipating more serious reprieves in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump has moved mountains since taking office and I\u2019m certain he\u2019s not done yet,\u201d said Amy Povah, a clemency advocate and founder of the CAN-DO Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would not be surprised if he goes down in history as the most merciful president when it comes to correcting injustices carried over from the horrifying tough-on-crime era of the late \u201980s and \u201990s that is responsible for sending many good people to prison for life, including life for pot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presidents generally are more generous with clemency \u2014 including pardons and prison commutations \u2014 toward the end of their terms, contributing to the anticipation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus far Trump has issued 27 pardons and 11 commutations in the last four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump has publicly mused about pardoning figures ranging from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/08\/13\/trump-a-lot-of-people-think-edward-snowden-not-being-treated-fairly\/\">anti-surveillance NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/04\/08\/donald-trump-on-joe-exotic-pardon-ill-take-a-look\/\">\u201cTiger King\u201d Joe Exotic<\/a>, and often&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2018\/11\/28\/trump-says-pardon-for-paul-manafort-still-a-possibility\/\">bemoaned as unfair<\/a>&nbsp;the treatment of 2016 campaign associates convicted in connection with special counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s also sprung lesser-known figures \u2014&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/statement-press-secretary-regarding-executive-grants-clemency-102120\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most recently last month<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 who were presented to the White House by clemency advocates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Names bandied about as potential clemency recipients before Trump leaves office on Jan. 20 include former national security adviser Mike Flynn, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Roger Stone, whose prison sentence&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/07\/10\/president-trump-commutes-roger-stones-sentence\/\">Trump already commuted<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trump
