Amy Povah of the CAN-DO Foundation launched the Guardian Angel program to assign volunteers with prisoners seeking mercy through clemency. \u00a0 In essence, our volunteers, many of whom have served time or are a family member of a prisoner are working together to help individuals who were left behind in their struggle to obtain freedom. \"unnamed\" This program pairs good samaritans who want to get involved with those who desperately need someone to be their voice, eyes and ears on social media, outreach, and to keep them informed with regard to new laws, criminal justice reform efforts, \u00a0and rapid responders when something goes wrong in the life of an incarcerated individual. We advocate for their freedom, with an emphasis on seeking justice through clemency because they everyone deserves to enhance their chances of reuniting with their families and moving past the stigma of their darkest hour. Who is heading up the Guardian Angel program? \"amy\"Executive Director of the program is CAN-DO Founder, Amy Povah. \u00a0Amy, and CAN-DO prison outreach coordinator, Malik King email approximately 600 prisoners, most of whom are seeking clemency. \u00a0Due to the overwhelming demands to provide these applicants with the tools they need to be successful, Amy realized she needed an army to assist CAN-DO with the herculean task of securing freedom. \u00a0The response to assist has been overwhelming and we want to thank each and ever Guardian Angel who has accepted this challenge. PR Director Ramona Brant granted an interview for her local TV station WSOC TV in Charlotte North Carolina that aired on July 4th.<\/a> She talks about how President Obama saved her from a life sentence which would have required her to decease while incarcerated, and why clemency is such an important tool for President Obama to utilize to grant relief to others. She talked about the Guardian Angel program and the station encouraged people to get involved! \"Ramona\" \"anrica\"Maurenne Griese is the Guardian Angel Program Supervisor and Anrica is the Vice President of CAN-DO Foundation. \u00a0She\u00a0has been an educator for the Pittsburgh Public Schools in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for 21 years, focusing on students with special needs for the past 8 years. Anrica holds a M.A. in Special Education from Slippery Rock University, a M.A. in Reading from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in Elementary Education. After seeing prior students, friends, and family members lose their lives to the penal system, Anrica began this current journey by assisting, writing, and becoming a spokesperson for a family member serving a LIFE sentence for a non-violent drug offense.
